Wrightwood: One Killed in DUI Crash

On the night of Sunday, June 1, 2014, one person was killed in a DUI crash in Wrightwood, reported the Daily Press. While traveling eastbound on State Route 2 in a 1996 Jeep Cherokee, 36-year-old Amy Hinkle veered into the opposing lane of traffic and collided with a 1991 Mazda. The 53-year-old driver of the Mazda suffered fatal trauma. Hinkle, who had been arrested for DUI in 2011 and was on probation, is being charged with felony gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
The California Office of Traffic Safety’s most current records indicate that 11,627 people were killed or injured in motor vehicle collisions that occurred in San Bernardino County in 2011. Alcohol was a contributing factor to 1,446 of the crashes that resulted in injury or death in the county. Statewide, alcohol-related crash fatalities increased from 774 in 2011 to 802 in 2012.
