Yucca Valley: Motorcyclist David Michael Hayes Killed in Crash

At about 10:13 p.m. on Thursday, March 20, 2014, 59-year-old motorcyclist David Michael Hayes was killed in a crash in Yucca Valley, reported the Hi-Desert Star. While traveling westbound on Twentynine Palms Highway in a Dodge Charger, 22-year-old Christopher Ryan Hannon struck Hayes from behind near Wamengo Trail. Hayes was declared dead at the scene. The Morongo Basin Station’s Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the crash. Witnesses, or anyone with information about the collision, are asked to contact Deputy W. In 2011, the most recent year for which California Office of Traffic Safety statistics are available, 13 motorcyclists were killed and 172 were injured in crashes that occurred in Yucca Valley. Throughout San Bernardino County, motorcycle accidents claimed the lives of or caused injury to 544 riders. Statewide, motorcycle fatalities increased 15 percent, from 352 in 2010 to 414 in 2011.
